I – Ink Painting (A to Z Blogging Challenge)

I was stuck at this letter for like a long time. Finally when I could think no more and my mind was cloudy from over thinking and under sleeping, I asked my husband to try and find some interesting things to do with the letter I.

And then I went to sleep.

When I woke up, he was already off to work. But he had ticked the checkbox for ‘I’ on Evernote, and written in front of it, “Ink Painting”.

“What the hell is Ink Painting?”, I asked him over the phone. “I gave you the words, why don’t you go and find out?”

And find out I did.

And then I was zapped.

Ink Painting is a Chinese art of painting with calligraphy brushes and calligraphy ink. With just blue, black and basic colors and strengthening or weakening of the ink, exquisite art pieces are created.

But the more I saw, the more afraid I became. No way was I going to be able to do this.

Then I saw a Bamboo painting. And I knew, I was already in love 🙂

The things I used:

  • Drawing sheet
  • Black Ink
  • A couple of brushes.
  • Water
  • Mixing palette

That’s it. With these things I created my first Bamboo painting. It is something I have wanted to do for a long long time. Finally it came to be.

It may not be perfect. Indeed, it is not.

But I am happy for I have discovered a new art. One which I am eager to pursue further.

Some more pieces of Ink Painting I found online.

I hope you liked Ink Paintings as much as I did. Do try your hand at this art. It is really very very simple, but the finished pieces look beautiful and priceless 🙂

Happy DIYing!

  1. 😛 You know when I read Ink Painting, I thought it was the ink-blot you were talking about. You remember, in school, we used to drop a drop of ink on paper and fold the paper in many ways to get different patterns. I thought it was that. You are multi-talented. Btw, you bake cakes right? And also decorate?

  2. Ooh, I need to check out the rest of your A to Z in case it’s all about art. 😀

I’ve worked with inks before, but mostly blue ink. I “inherited” a handful of little ink bottles from my mum because she had stopped all her arty stuff of youth. 🙂

  3. Gorgeous! I love the look of ink paintings, though I’ve never attempted them because they look so sophisticated and I fear I lack the talent. Any particular type of brush you use?
